FARGO, No. Dak., January 5, 2011 - It looks like the U.S. is finally getting some hard evidence that the recession may be over. A survey released today by ADP Employer Services reports that private sector employers across the U.S. added nearly 300,000 jobs in December. Here in the valley, the hiring picture is bright as well. Valley News team’s Steve Poitras visited a Fargo company that has a growing payroll.
Spectrum Aeromed is in the business of saving lives. Spectrum manufactures air ambulance equipment. The company, which originated in Wheaton, Minnesota, moved to Fargo in the fall of 2008. Sales are up and Production Manager Bob Daily says more workers have been needed to keep up.
“We’ve hired an extra welder, extra machinist. We have a part-time NDSU student who’s in mechanical engineering. We’ve just hired an inventory clerk because our inventory’s going up. We do a lot of custom work, so that makes a demand for more parts. We are now going to hire on an inspector. And we’re looking for another machinist,” Daily says.
One of the recent hires at Spectrum Aeromed, Brandon Kushida, inventory control coordinator, is very upbeat about the future of the company and his job.
“Confidence is very high. It’s an incredible business to be in, and the growth in the last three years, as I understand it, has been amazing. So my position here keeps growing day to day,” Kushida tells us.
The company is cautiously optimistic about future expansion. Daily says, “We’re growing. Every year we’re grown. And looking to hire more people as we go. We wanna make sure the economy’s stable before we do hire more people. So when we do, we know this is what we want.”
Overall, job growth potential looks good in this region. Sanford Health, for instance, currently has more than 350 open positions in the area.
