- “The Sikorsky S-92 helicopter is an aircraft with excellent VIP and SAR capabilities. We are thrilled to have developed a comprehensive air medical solution for the S-92. Our modular (quick change) equipment has been timetested in worldwide use over the last 20 years and we know it will be an outstanding and flexible air medical solution for Sikorsky S-92 operators.”
Air medical technology gives customers of popular VIP aircraft an increased sense of security and ability to perform search and rescue missions
Owners of Sikorsky S-92 helicopters now have the ability to perform medical evacuations and offer better security for VIPs and heads of state, thanks to Spectrum Aeromed’s successful certification and integration of single modular air medical equipment on two VIP Sikorsky S-92 helicopters
“Our clients are seeking proven ways to optimize the potential of their aircraft, especially during challenging economic times,” said Horst Heinicke, vice president of international sales for Spectrum Aeromed. “With the recent S-92 conversions, operators now have customized and proven quick change air medical equipment available in-flight, which is an important option for VIP and search and rescue (SAR) missions.”
Spectrum Aeromed engineers opened the STC data package for the Sikorsky S-92 helicopter in September 2008. The FAA issued the supplemental type certificate on Dec. 18, 2008. Subsequently, two Sikorsky S-92A aircraft interiors were completed by Keystone Helicopter in Coatesville, Pa. In early March, Spectrum’s staff of medical aviation experts provided an on-site final fit as well as hands-on training for 32 members of the end-user technical and medical crews to ensure the operator had all the resources necessary to meet their patients’ needs.
Dean Atchison, president and CEO of Spectrum Aeromed noted, “The Sikorsky S-92 helicopter is an aircraft with excellent VIP and SAR capabilities. We are thrilled to have developed a comprehensive air medical solution for the S-92. Our modular (quick change) equipment has been time-tested in worldwide use over the last 20 years and we know it will be an outstanding and flexible air medical solution for Sikorsky S-92 operators.”
The Sikorsky S-92 VIP and SAR work has helped propel Spectrum Aeromed through a strong first and second quarter. Other completed work includes King Air 200, Cessna Citation, Agusta Westland and Eurocopter air medical projects. Sales have been steady as Spectrum Aeromed continues to focus on supplying aircraft manufacturers, owners and medical flight crews with the best possible air medical equipment solutions so they can provide the best possible care for patients in any emergency medical situation.
